Benefits
At what age are disabled children eligible for benefits?

Birth - parent/carer can make a claim for Disability Living Allowance (DLA) care component.
3 months
- DLA care component can be paid.
2 years 9 months
- parent/carer can make a claim for DLA mobility component high rate.
3 years
- DLA mobility component high rate can be paid.
4 years 9 months
- DLA mobility component low rate can be claimed.
5 years
- DLA mobility component low rate can be paid.
16 years
- Income Support can be claimed if the young person is severely disabled and unlikely to find work if they left school.
16 years
- Incapacity Benefit can be claimed if the young person is in education for less than 21 hours per week, or if the education would not be "suitable for a young person without disabilities" (for example, a special needs school).

Parents/carers may be able to claim Carer's Allowance benefit if they care for a disabled children for more than 35 hours a week, are not in full-time education or full-time paid work, and not claiming some other benefits (for example, State Pension, Incapacity Benefit).

Benefits change all the time so do check the latest regulations.
