Carers
Disabled children and young people are amazing and fun! Caring for a disabled child can also be stressful and frustrating. Parents and carers need to make sure they look after themselves as well.

As a parent or carer you are entitled to a Carer's Assessment under the Carers (Recognition and Services) Act 1995 and the Carers and Disabled Children Act 2000. Talk to your local Social Services.

You can get help and information from:
Carers National Association: 020 7490 8818
Or fax: 020 7490 8824
Or go to their (very useful!) website: www.londonhealth.co.uk/carersnationalassociation.asp

A very useful book is: "A Straightforward Guide to Caring for a Disabled Child" by Abigail Knight, published by Straightforward Publishing.
