Employment
Young people with disabilities have a right to find work when they leave school. You should be offered help to do this by your local Connexions service or your local Job Centre (from the Disability Employment Adviser). If you have a Statement of Special Educational Needs, you are entitled to a Connexions Personal Adviser.

If you want to find work after you are 16 years old you can contact your local Job Centre and meet with the Disability Employment Adviser. They will help you think about the support you will need in work, help you find training, help you get ready for work, and help you with application forms, etc. They can also tell you about "Access to Work" which provides support to disabled people in work and can pay for special equipment and adaptations. Also, your local Social Services may provide a supported employment service to help young people with learning disabilities and other special needs find work, training, or do some volunteering. Contact your local Social Services to find out more.
